Santa Tecla

& Surroundings

Santa Tecla   is a small seaside village, near Acireale, within the marvelous Riviera dei Limoni or dei Ciclopi, to which Aci Castello and Aci Trezza also belong. Surmounted by the majestic Timpa, the hamlet extends over the Ionian Sea, on a compact and jagged rock cliff of volcanic origin, which gives life to the Gulf of Santa Tecla, indicated in the ancient maps as "Sinus S.Theclae". It is surrounded by citrus groves, shrubs and plants typical of the Mediterranean scrub, olive and almond trees.

Santa Tecla is a delightful seaside village, a tourist destination for local people, where you can find delicious restaurants and pizzerias. During the day everyone pours onto the lava stone cliff, at the beginning of the town there is a beach equipped with a private lido and a public solarium with free access, also served for the disabled. In the evening we meet in the main square or stroll along the street in the centre.

In August the feast of the Patron Saint takes place with a spectacular procession of illuminated boats on the sea and a fireworks display. Other sporting and cultural events are also held, including the national television award "Garitta d'Argento".

Santa Tecla is linked to the various villages of Santa Maria La Scala, Capomulini, Stazzo, Pozzillo, all very characteristic, inhabited by fishermen, with ancient traditions to be discovered.

Calm and serenity characterize this place, which envelops with its bright colors, the scents of oranges, lemons, tangerines, cedars, typical of the Mediterranean garden.

At 2 km you can visit Acireale which is the closest city, beautiful to visit in the afternoon or in the evening, among its majestic churches and the Baroque that frames the entire historic center. From here you can easily reach the most beautiful tourist destinations in Sicily such as the Etna volcano, or the coast of the Cyclops, the beautiful Taormina which is just 30 minutes away by car. It is certainly the best choice for those seeking tranquility but without depriving themselves of visits to touristic and crowded centres. It is advisable to have a rental means of transport, for a holiday that is sure to be fun.
